Truth in 24 : LeMans Movie : 2008-12-05

The Want List : 2008-12-03

Ahh, the want list – that list of things you’d love to be able to buy for your ride but can’t. What’s your list to take your car to the next level without being completely unreasonable? It’s easy to say “magnesium wheels” or “custom-spec Moton suspension”, but I’m not talking about that. Here’s mine:

  • ACPT or Braille carbon driveshaft : ~$1100
  • Okada Projects Plasma Direct coils : ~$600
  • Oil pressure gauge : $100-$130
  • Replacement NTK L2H2 O2 sensor for Hydra ECU : $250
  • GrimmSpeed 8mm Phenolic Spacers for intake manifold : $85
  • APS turbo inlet : $330?

Cat-back Exhaust Ripoffs : 2008-12-01

I’m always amazed at the pricing on cat-back exhausts. They consist of 2 parts usually: an “axle-back” portion and a “midpipe”. If you can find them, the axle-back portion typically costs around $350. This piece includes the canister/muffler, tip, hangers, 1 flange, and a section of pipe. Are we to believe then that a mostly straight midpipe with 2 flanges welded on costs another $250 – $400?

Come on, we all know that’s not true.

I just noticed something nice about the SPT (Subaru Performance Tuning) short intake. It has little holders cast into the pipe for the OEM coolant lines. It’s all in the details, folks.

The end of Harman Motive, for now. : 2008-11-18

The Harman Motive blog has a press release stating that the facility, equipment, tools, and their STI are for sale due to the upcoming closing of their shop. The last quoted sentence, “Certainly this is a difficult time for all of us, but I am confident that we will emerge better and stronger than ever.”, hints at future plans, but it seems like the writing is on the wall.

Update: They’ve posted a FAQ about the ordeal which clarifies a bit more.

How DeatschWerks Rolls : 2008-11-17

When I extracted the Denso ~550cc injectors (EJ207-STI “Pinks”) from Project Resell, they were crusty and not something I could reinstall as-is in good conscience. Having used RC Engineering before for injector flow-testing work, I decided to give DeatschWerks a shot this time. I was happy with RC, but their cost was a bit much.

In the image here, you can see what you get for their Basic service with normal shipping option ($77 for 4 injectors). The included lube packet was a nice touch. I’m pleased and will be a repeat customer as needed in the future.
